Curiosities and wells :

Buffon Street : Buffon Street is lined with buildings constructed between the Renaissance and the XVIIth century : a sun dial, wood and stone gargoyles.

Coquinerie de Semur-en-Auxois” : a siren to whom male attributes have been given. This curiosity is associated with the legend of Hercules.

The wells” : At Semur-en-Auxois, you will find many stone wells, with wrought iron framework. There are wells off Buffon street and Rempart street.

Le logis du Roy : Located at the junction of Buffon Street and Vieux Marché, you will find on the corner an imposing building named “logis du Roy”. This beautiful architectural building was also the place where the royal justice was pronounced.

The Boat-shaped wash-house :

Having a project to establish different wash-houses all along the river Armançon, the town council decided on February 16th 1906 to make a first attempt in the Saussis Street.

The mayor and the architect went to Chalon-sur-Saône to observe some wash-houses in service. When they came back, the town council chose a model with space for 20 users, suggested by the institution Faure Frères, constructed in Chalon-sur-Saône. Its width is about 3 meters while the standard width is 2,50 meters, so offering more spacious toilets.

The wash-house was transported by boat on the Burgundy Canal, to the port of Venarey-les-Laumes. It is kitted out with a space for washing, and one for drying. The wash-house, constructed in 1906, is made oak.

It is one of the last wash-houses existing in Burgundy (it was restored in 2006 as part of a project for people in social rehabilitation). Today, the wash-house is established on the bank of the river.
